Missed this one when it first came out, Kayanernh-Kowa Lodge #219 had an event patch in 2004 for their Amangi Mawinsin. This is the 3rd patch in the series begining in 2002. A forth eJ2005 was issued last uear and is listed in a previous post.

Newly Discovered 412 Amangi Wulit Chapter Issue X1

Previously, there were no known issues from the Amangi Wulit Chapter of Buckskin Lodge #412.

Lodge 181 Nischa Nimat event arc eX1990

At the Sakuwit Lodge 2 TOR this weekend, a new event issue was uncovered for Lodge 181 Nischa Nimat. Previously an undated eR19xx was known to exist, as well as dated event patches from 1980 through 1987. Some of which have been reported on this blog. Now an a dated arc - 1990 has been discovered to accompany this undated patch.
Since Nischa Nimat merged with 48, 268 and 418 into 181 Ganienkeh. This would have been the last event issue for Nischa Nimat.
Does anyone have any information on the existance of dated event patches or arcs for the "missing years" 1988 and 1989.

The Year in Review 2005 - Scouting Collectibles

Roy More of The Scout Patch Auction (TSPA) typically does a year in review article in the ISCA (International Scout Traders Association) Journal and this year has also posted it on his blog.
For those who don't know, TSPA is one of the largest dealers in Scout collectibles. Previously he had published numerous sales lists and auctions; although these days seems to list mainly on eBay.
This 9 page article is full of pictures and information on the status of the hobby and covers all of the major collecting areas with ratings of cold, warm and hot. It can be found here. You may not agree with it all, but it makes interesting reading.

How would you value a well used First Flap?

I'm interested in some opinions here. Note I am not offering this item for sale nor am I brokering it. Just looking for some opinions on both valuing scarce but used cloth and whether you feel a similar item would find its way into you possession. I was recently contacted by a ex-Scouter who had what appeared to be a Wakpominee 48 F1 in well-used condition. It had been sewn, washed and exhibited at least some box-dirt but overall was still in decent but not great condition. It is a First Flap with I believe a 9 scarcity on a scale of 1-10. He asked my opinion about value I had 6 information points: Tracker Software lists 3 sales by TSPA @ $454, $ 810 and $ 1750 with no mention of condition which would normally mean mint. From 2 old sale lists from Brush Creek, (3-4 years ago) one F1 was described as very lightly sewn @ $900 and about 4 years ago another "crisp" 48F1 offered @ $800. One price realized list circa 1992-93 from the sale of a very large NY collection (Don Vanderbilt) listed a 48F1 as selling for $777. Now overall there may have some appreciation or overall decline in value, but assume $1000 current value as a talking point for a mint 48F1. 1. How much of a percentage discount from a mint specimen would you think would be justified for the used flap pictured above? 2. If there was a similar valued item with a similar scarcity (and condition) from one of the lodges/councils/ areas you collect would you be willing to put it in your collection in that condition? 3. What about if this was the last item you need to complete your prime collection? Would a used item do or would you hold out (and pay) for a mint one? 4. What percentage discount from "mint" would you value a used item at? I'd be interested in your thoughts. You may email me or leave a comment here.

It is actually from Eluwak Lodge #59 Cochipiane Chapter of the Nathan Hale District and already listed in the Blue Book.
You Shinnecock completeists can take this one off you list.

Ktemaque Lodge is issuing a series of 7 patches for the 2006 NOAC. A Single Flap and three 2-piece sets. The sets all share the same design with different border colors RMY, SMY, GMY. Once I have more information, I will post it, but they are some variation of Fundraiser, Trader and Delegate. The single flap is of the same design with a Black border.

Loon Lodge #364 Merger?

And another one bites the dust....
Bruce Raver recently reported on Patch-L on the merger (absorbtion) of Adirondack Council into Twin Rivers Council.
For those who have not yet heard, Adirondack Council and Twin Rivers Council have merged. Below is the text of the article in the latest issue of the Twin Rivers Council newsletter "Signals" sent to adult volunteers. Adirondack Council's area will become the Adirondack District of Twin Rivers Council. Perhaps it's more accurate to say that Adirondack Council was "absorbed." I have not heard anything yet about the impact to the lodges. When Wakpominee Lodge 48 merged with Ganienkeh Lodge 19 in 1998, they became the Wakpominee Chapter of the new Haudenosaunee Lodge 19. No telling what the youth members will decide on, but a new lodge name could be in the making. I'll post additional news as it becomes available. An interesting side note for numbers people: Loon Lodge 364 coincidentally shares the same number as the Twin Rivers Council (#364), so maybe Loon won't completely lose its old number if lodges are known by their council number!
The old Adirondack Council Webpage now is renamed Adirondack District with a link to the Twin Rivers Council homepage. No news on the Loon Lodge website or the Haudenosaunee Lodge website at this writing.

Another Patch Blanket Blog?!?

Several days ago, I posted on a Patch-collecting blog I ran across Bob McCanless' The Patch Blanket at http://www.patchblanket.blogspot.com/. There is also a webisite http://www.patchblanket.com/. This site appears to be more of a combination of a blog and forums. The webmaster of the site is Jason Spangler. The front page has several recent posts on a variety of collecting topics. These seem to be individual messages from the various forums. Currently there are about 15 forums and 40 registerd members. Give them a look.

Update to Previous Post - Unlisted 417 Neckechief?

In a previous post, I speculated on whether a neckerchief I had acquired was a Section Conclave Issue or on unlisted Lodge Contingent item to that conclave. I did have a couple of responses, Dave Scocca wrote "The Conclave Handbook Volume 1 (Frank Dingwerth and Chris Jensen) pictures this neckerchief as the Area 2H issue for 1959. The checklist indicates that a neckerchief (but no patch) was issued." Separately Jim Clough had a number of 2-H Conclave items in his last sales list. The pictured neckerchief was listed as the 59 2-H Conclave Neckerchief. This was the earliest conclave item from 2-H in his list. I have not had any direct repsonses from any 2-H members or collectors. While it is likely this is a conclave piece, I will continue to look since the previous 2-H Conclave issues (1956-58)and post (1960 and later) all specifically mention "conclave" on the neckerchief, only the 1959 does not. Time will tell.

Bob McCanless, a collector currently in the Pittsburg area and member of Patch-L, has recently started a patch collecting blog called "The Patch Blanket." Suanhacky Lodge #49 X41 Fundraiser

Suanhacky Lodge #49 has issued a patch "designed to raise funds for TI'ak Lodge #404, Pine Burr Council, Mississippi. The Council and their Camp Ti'ak suffered horrendous damageas a result of Hurricane Katrina." The cost of the patch has been underwritten, so the entire proceeds from the sale of these patches will go to Ti'ak Lodge. Their are to be two varieties, a regular version and a limted version with a mylar border. I will try to get a link to the form, but in the interim, you can click on the lower image.

Unlisted Neckerchief Lodge 417 Ganeodiyo ?

This is a bleg for information regarding what is apparently an unlisted Neckerchief from Lodge #417 Ganeodiyo. The neckerchief is similar in design to the N1.5 but rather than having "61" in red, this one has "59" in red at the bottom of the neckerchief. The N1.5 is dated "61" in 1961 the 2H Conclave was held at Crumhorn Mountain Scout Reservation which is the Council Camp of Onteroraus Lodge 402. Therefore the N1.5 would either be a NOAC Contingent Neckerchief (NOAC held in 1961) or and Area Conclave Contingent Neckerchief. Since there was no NOAC in 1959 my best guess is both the 1961 and the 1959 neckerchiefs are Lodge Contingent Neckerchiefs to the 2H conclaves. As you can see, the neckerchief is white with 2 red arrows, a red Area II-H and 59. I need to confirm my belief this is a Lodge Contingent piece to the Area 2H Conclave in 1959 and not the conclave neckerchief. Does anyone have any direct knowledge of this issue? Does anyone have a scan of the 2-H conclave patch or neckerchief? Knowledge of the Host Lodge who held the 1959 2H conclave or Camp the event was held in? They also have other supplies such as 3 Ring D-clip binders and comic and magazine backing boards. I use the acid free backing boards and cut them to size to fit the various pocket sizes of the pages. this makes for a cleaner appearance and can double the number of patches that can be displayed on each page. I've added a couple of links via Amazon in the sidebar which links to sellers of Ultra-Pro Pages both 6 pocket and 1 pocket pages. The 6 pocket pages are great for regular size flaps and the 1 pocket pages are good for most neckerchiefs and jacket patches. Whether you get them here or somewhere else, be sure they are archival quality so the patch colors don't bleed into the plastic.

Ty-Ohni Lodge #95 New Jacket Patches J6 & J7

Lodge #95 has issued to new jacket patches with a similar design. The J6 has a Silver Mylar Border, the J7 a black border. The J6 was issued in a smaller quantity than the J7. The J7 is pictured below. Note the twill directions in the descriptions. I'm trying to determine if the opposite twill directions exist in one or both of the J's which would create an a & b variety. Buckskin Lodge has again issued 3 two-piece sets for the 2006 NOAC using there usual OBV wolf theme. This time the three sets make up a larger design with a flag background. Well actually I still have to update some information on Lodge 412 which has issued 3 two-piece sets, but it otherwise contains all of the known issues from New York Lodges. Ray Gould sends information on a previously unlisted neckerchief from Lodge 500 Ona Yote Kaonaga. This neckerchief was seen on eBay, earlier this year and Ray has found the second and is aware of at least one other collecter form old area 2G who has a third.
The design is the same as the silkscreened N1. The embroidered version is scheduled to be listed in BLue Book 6 as the N0.5

A recent discovery for the Blue Book, an unlisted neckerchief from Lodge 339 Amo'chk. The design is same as the N3, but on white rather than manila (Light Tan)cloth. The grass on the N3.5 is slightly lighter, but the real difference is in the cloth.

The N3 is pictured on the left and the N3.5 on the right.

Lodge #86 Nacha Nimat prototype uncovered YS3

George Jennings brings word of a new discovery from lodge#86 Nacha Nimat. The flap pictured on the left is a prototype design of the S17 (B in the scan). It's likely designation is the YS3. Apparently there was a change in professionel staff between the initial design and the actual order where the sides were shortened by 1cm (10mm) the font for the Lodge name was also increase by 2mm (from 6mm in the prototype to 8mm in the S17).

While lodge #159 has is already seeling a 2006 NOAC set, they do not mention NOAC on the flaps. Now Nacha Nimat Lodge #86 has issued 3 two piece sets for the 2006 NOAC winning the earliest release of NOAc issues award. The sets were ordered by the lodge, paid by the council, but when the order came in, the bears seemed more like teddy bears and the black bear totem of the lodge. Hiawatha Seaway Council has a William Hillcourt Museum located at their Camp Woodland. My research has so far shown that this patch was not issued nor sanctioned by the lodge.
